Ironies

Man is really hard to understand and life is really full of contradictions.

  1. We know what's the right and good thing to do yet we tend to do the opposite.
  2. We ask questions sometimes but actually, we have answers in mind already. We just want to compare our toughts to that of the others.
  3. We smile but deep inside we are bleeding.
  4. We seek advices for our problems or for anything but in the end our heart's desires prevail. and lastly;
  5. We have bright ideas in mind but we don't find a way to put all those ideas into action.

Isn't it just so ironic? What can you say?
Well I think, the last one is best described the Filipinos. They say that 'Philippines is rich in intelligent people', our leaders come from the most standard schools in the country and even abroad--sa sobrang talino, harapan at garapalan kung mangurakot-- yet the country is not improving. Where are the brains of those so called "intelligent people"? I am not only referring to the government, huh, but to all citizens as well. The reason why corruption is rampant in the government is because the society itself is corrupt! The fact is the Philippines will remain hopeless if we don't make any actions...sabi nga eh,"

Evil will prevail when good men do nothing"

oooppppsss! I guess that's all--baka kung saan pa mapunta ang usapan! hehehe... hmmm.. so what do you think my fellow countrymen?

Thank God I have vacant time to post something.. :)

Life's Contradictions

Life is really full of contradictions.

Just take a look at this:

  • We know what are the right and good things to do yet we tend to do the opposite.
  • We ask questions sometimes but actually we knew the answers already. We just want to compare our ideas to others.
  • We smile but deep inside we are bleeding.
  • We seek advices for our problems or anything but in the end our heart's desires prevail.and lastly;
  • We have bright ideas but we don't find a way to put all those ideas into action.

Isn't it just so ironic? Well I think, the last one is best applied for the Filipinos. They say that Philippines is the country of intelligent people--sa sobrang talino, harapan at garapalan kung mangurakot-- yet the country is not improving. Hey, am not only referring to the government, huh, I am referring to all citizens of the country! The society will not produce corrupt officials if the society itself is not corrupt... oooppps! I guess that's all--baka kung saan pa mapunta ang usapan. hehehe.. Well guys, come to think of it...

Well, thank God

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan Session

I have the chance to witness a Sanggunian Panlalawigan(SP) Session last January 30, 2008. It was the first Sanggunian Session I have ever witnessed. The presiding officer of the session was the Vice Governor of the province, Atty. Eliordo Ogena. At first I thought that the governor was not around for some reason that’s why the vice governor acted as the presiding officer for the mean time. But I have learned from a 4th year polsci student, who was also there, that in all the session of the Sanggunians, it is always the vice who acts as the presiding officer(except for the Sangguniang Barangay where there is no Vice Brgy. Capt.). And also I have learned from my father(and through consulting the Local Gov’t. Code) that the Vice Gov. or Vice Mayor cannot deliberate discussions and debates with the sanggunian member(during session), just facilitates the session and act as the tie breaker during votations.

The components of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan are the Board Members, the President of the Provincial Councilors’ League(PCL) President, Representative of the Barangays in the SP(ABC President), and the representative of the SK in the SP(SK Federation President of the Province). Beside the presiding officer was a woman, whom I think the head secretary/stenographer because she was taking notes of all the things that were being discussed during the session. Beside the room were bunch of other secretaries who were also taking notes. There was an area at the back where visitors and those people who wanted to witness the session sit.

The topics of there(SP) discussion were the ordinances enacted by the municipalities and city. I was not really able to hear all their deliberations and arguments because I was sitting at the back and the people in front were talking while the SP were also talking. All that I had noticed was that it’s not really that necessary for all the members of the sanggunian to speak up and draw their arguments. Some are just listening and nodding. Only few gave their opinions and comments. After discussing a certain topic where no one argues or contradicts they would proceed to another discussion.

After the session, I realized that it’s not easy to be a sanggunian member(a politician). You have to be professional enough not to loose your temper during discussions. As a legislator you have to be aware on what is happening in your community so that you can make ordnances that will promote the general welfare of the people. You also have to be a good public servant because politics is a game for keeps. All the things you've done and doing as a public servant will reflect to your name and to your family as well. And it has long time effect, it will past thru history.

Over all, witnessing a Sanggunian is such an opportunity. We were able to have an overview on how a sanggunian session is being held. I just hope that our provincial officials here in South Cotabato will be responsible enough and do their duties to serve their constituents well until they end their office.

Actually, I thought of posting this before… hehehe… nalimutan ko lang i-post. I just remember posting it when I open my USB and saw it.

The Cockroach!

I've been tag with this by Princess. Thanks ate(can i call you that way?)! *wink*

LOOK UP YOUR BIRTHDAY AND SEE WHAT YOU ARE. FORWARD ON TO PEOPLE THAT YOU THINK THAT WOULD GET A KICK OUT OF THIS... INCLUDING THE PERSON WHO SENT IT TO YOU. PUT YOUR BIRTHDAY ANIMAL IN THE SUBJECT LINE AND PASS IT ON.

I am a Cockroach (Nov. 11)!

If you are a Cockroach : Quite contradictory to your name, you are a peace loving person. You best try to avoid a situation wherein you are required to fight. An outdoor person, you dislike sitting at one place for a long duration. You are a born leader, and have it in you how to tactful! y deriv e work from people. You love being loved and when you receive your share of limelight from someone, you are all theirs!!!! Well, well... Hence some people could even take an advantage, flatter you to the maximum and get their work done. So be careful.....

At first I thought I was a parasite, later did i notice that i was reading the wrong birth animal. Well some of the descriptions above are true though. But you know what shocked me? I was more of a parasite than of a cockroach! hahaha...

Don't forget to scroll down to see what it says about you.

If you are an Ass : A very loyal and sweet person. Your loyalty can never be doubted. You are quite honest and sincere when it comes to your attitude towards working. You are a very simple person, indeed. Absolutely hassle free, humble, and down-to-earth!! That explains the reason why your friends cling on to you! You have a good taste for clothes. If your wardrobe is not updated with what is trendy, you sure are depressed. Popular and easy-going. You have a little group of dignified friends, all of them being quality-personified.

If you are a Slug : Always up to some sort of a mischief! The mischievous gleam in your eyes is what make s you so cute and attractive to everyone. You are an extremely fun-to-be-with kind of person. No wonder people seek your company and look forward to include you for all get-together. However, you are sensitive which is a drawback. People need to select their words while talking to you. If someone tries to fiddle around and play with words while dealing with you, it is enough to invite your wrath. God bless the person then!

If you are a Cockroach : Quite contradictory to your name, you are a peace loving person. You best try to avoid a situation wherein you are required to fight. An outdoor person, you dislike sitting at one place for a long duration. You are a born leader, and have it in you how to tactful! y derive work from people. You love being loved and when you receive your share of limelight from someone, you are all theirs!!!! Well, well... Hence some people could even take an advantage, flatter you to the maximum and get their work done. So be careful.....

If you are a Parasite : An extremely lovable, adorable person, sometimes shy, with a passion for quick wit. At times, you prefer quietness. You love exploring various things and going into depth of each thing. Under normal circumstances you're cool but when given a reason to, you are like a volcano waiting to erupt. You're a fashion bird. People look forward to you as an icon associated with fashion. Basically, you mingle along freely but don't like talking much to strangers. People feel very easy in your company. You observe care in choosing your friends.

If you are a Skunk : You are near to perfect and nice at heart! . The examples of your kindness are always circulated in groups of people. You, too, love peace. You wouldn't like to retaliate even to a person who is in the wrong. You are loved due to this. You do not wish to talk behind one's back. People love the way you always treat them. You can give, give, and give love, and the best part is that you do not expect it back in return. You are generous enough. Seeing things in a practical light is what remains the best trait of you guys.

If you are a Bullfrog : You symbolize a very happy-go-lucky approach in life. Whatever the surroundings may be, grim or cheerful, you remain unaffected. In fact, you spread cheer wherever you go. You are the leader of your group of fri ends! and go od at consoling pe ople in their times of need. You dislike hypocrisy and tend to shirk away from hypocrites. They can never be in your good books, no matter what. You are very methodical and organized in your work. No amount of mess, hence, can ever encompass you. Beware, it is easy for you to fall in love....

If you are a Snake : You are mysterious. You are someone who can handle pressure with ease, and can handle any atmosphere without going berserk. You can be mean at times, and love to gossip with your selected group. Very prim and proper. You like all situations and things to be in the w! ay you desire, which, sometimes is not possible. As a result, you may lose out in some relationships. But otherwise, you love to help people out from difficult and tight spots when they really need you.

If you are an Ape : Very impatient and hyper!!! You want things to be done as quick as possible. At heart, you are quite simple and love if you are the center of attraction. That way, you people are unique. You would like to keep yourself safe from all the angles. Shall your name be dragged or featured in any sort of a controversy, you then go all panicky. Therefore, you take your precautions from the very beginning. When you foresee anything wrong, your sixth sense is what saves you from falling in traps. Quite a money minded bunch you people are!!

Now I'm passing this to Ate Myrna, Just Saying, and to byotipol.

NationWide Noise!!!

OMG! there are so many anomalies in the State that I am getting a head ache over this stuff. All I could hear on the radio, TV, school-gossip, and even in the department store is the grandest NBN-ZTE deal (Lozada) issue! Nakakabingi... nakakahilo!!! Who is telling the truth and who's NOT?!? To whom could we put our trust?!?... It's like everyone has his own personal interest. They are just fooling us, at tayo naman nagpapaloko din!

Juan dela Cruz, WAKE UP!!!

Your Award!

It's my first time to receive an award here in the blogworld.. and ngayon ko lang din nalaman na may ganito pala dito.. really surprised.. So thank you so much ilovephilippines for the award! Happy Balimtayms day!

Photograph copyright: F. de Jager - Courtesy Philippine Council for Living Traditions

The rain was pouring yesterday so I decided to ride in a jeepney to go home. The jeep is actually going to Tampakan, a neighboring municipality of the City of Koronadal. Our place( Barangay) is the boundary of Koronadal to Tampakan so the people in our place sometimes ride in the jeepney. I was sitting in the front sit together with the two other ladies. In the jeepney, the two ladies were talking, I didn’t understand their conversation because they were speaking in their own language which is the B’laan. I knew then that they were B’laan because they are the only natives living in the mountains of Tampakan(tampakan is composed of Ilonggo, Bisaya and Tagalog and of course the B'laan Tribes). While the waiting for the other passenger,s the other lady asked me ‘what’s the date yesterday day’… I said “February 13, 2008”. Then I heard the other one said “ay! balimtayms na gali b’was..” (“Oh, tomorrow will be balimtayms day…” in English.) What she meant for the word balimtayms is the Valentine’s day… the word doesn’t have corresponding word in Filipino so when we use the word in our language, we use the word as it is.) I just kept quiet and just forced my self not to laugh that time because I knew that they would be offended if I did.

When I reached home I realized that if I chose to laugh the native because she didn’t pronounce the word properly, it would be a shame on my part. They are less educated compare to I am so I should understand why they could not pronounce some words in English properly—and to think that not all educated Filipinos pronounce the English words well.. And it’s not really necessary for us (Filipinos) to be good in the language because after all it is not our mother tongue. The circumstance also made me remember my father’s story of his first assignment being a teacher. He was assigned to teach the natives of Lake Sebu (the T’boli) in the mountains. He said the condition of the natives there is not good. He also said that when they need water for bath or for drink they need to walk 5 kilometers away from the community just to get water, and to think that the place is surrounded by mountains.

The government really forgot them already. They are not able to enjoy the programs and projects of the government, that’s supposed to be for all citizens, for the reason that they are so far away to the civilization (which my father and I think is not right). The wealth of the government should be equally distributed to all citizens no matter how far they are from the civilization and regardless of their tribe. They (gov’t.) should be just and fair to all. The natives of the country should be the focused of the government because they are (I guess) those people who really need help. They should also be taught to preserve their culture (w/c makes the Philippines unique) because it is already vanishing. And it’s not only the government that should give attention to them, I guess we (civilized citizens) should too. We should accept them for who they are and what they are. We should not discriminate them because of their tribes. They are also humans like us who posses dignity. They didn’t choose to be like that. Just try to imagine this: what if you were born as B'laan, you don’t want to feel discriminated and disgusted, right? So let us give them the respect that is due to them. We are all God’s creations and we are all brothers and sisters.

The Simple Truth

I don't want to say this actually but the image really tells the truth. Men just engage in a relationship just to get s*x while women give s*x just to get love. That's how I see the world of relationship nowadays. But I still believe that their are still good men who really take relationship seriously.---however, there are only few of them

To All Filipinos: 12 little things we can do to help our country

I had attended a Student Leader's seminar at our school last week.. when it was time for SSG officers to share theirknowledge about how to be a good leader and a citizen of the country. One of them mentioned about "12 Little things every Filipino can so to help our country(the philippines)" by: Atty. Alexander Lacson. I don't know if we are related or what.. lol.. kidding aside... Aexander's idea is so true and self reflecting..

Here is Lacson’s list of the 12 little things every Filipino can do to help our country:

  • Follow traffic rules. Follow the law. Magkaroon tayo ng disiplina sa ating mga sarili. Sumunod tayo sa mga regulasyon at batas ng ating estado.
  • Whenever you buy or pay for anything, always ask for an official receipt.
  • Don’t buy smuggled goods. Buy Local. Buy Filipino. Laging tandaan na ang pagbili ng mga imported na mga bilihin ay nakakadagdag sa pagbagsak ng ating ekonomiya.
  • When you talk to others, especially foreigners, speak positively about us and our country.
  • Respect your traffic officer, policeman and soldier.
  • Do not litter. Dispose your garbage properly. Segregate. Recycle. Conserve.
  • Support your church.
  • During elections, do your solemn duty. Huwag nating ipagbili ang mga boto natin.. choose the right officials. Vote wisely.
  • Pay your employees well.
  • Pay your taxes.
  • Adopt a scholar or a poor child. Kung ikaw ay mayaman, mabuting kumuha ka ng mga batang kapos palad at pag-araan ng sa gayo'y mabawasan ang paghihirap sa ating bansa.
  • Be a good parent. Teach your kids to follow the law and love our country. Values education always starts at home. Sa tahanan nagsisimula ang paghubog sa mga kabataan para maging mabuting mamamayan.

Those are just little things we can do to help our country. Maliit na mga bagay ngunit napakahalaga at napakalaki ng epekto sa ating bansa kapag ito'y ating nasunod.

According to my reasearch, si Atty. Alexander Lacson was planning to go abroad then when he realized that his county badly needs him.

You will know that a person is really a true friend if he/she is always there through thick and thin... and a person that will always be faithful to you(provided that you are in the correct path). The only person whom you can trust!

The Street Children in the Philippines

copied from stolenchildhood.net

When street children come across my way then ask me for a coin or something, I can’t help myself but feel irritated. Irritated in the sense that: Why are there children like them? Where are there parents? Why did the government let them be like that? Children like them are supposed to be going to school. But where are they now? What are they doing?

They are on the street waiting for somebody who would come across them and give them a centavo. Sometimes you can see them looking for something to put inside their roaring stomach in the garbage cans. Others are already into vises… and worse, others go snatching and are already a member of gangs and other group of criminals.

It was 6:00pm on January 30 and I was in the tricycle (going home), while the driver was waiting for passengers, when I saw two children (6 and 4 years old, I guess) on the street. They were walking holding hands. Suddenly, the older one stopped in front of the garbage, beside it was a big package cartoon. He took the cartoon and showed it to the younger one. The younger one then nodded and pointed his fingers to my direction. It was then that I noticed that behind the tricycle where I am sitting was a vacant area wherein only few people were passing by. They walked through the area then the older one laid down the cartoon. While the tricycle was still waiting for other passengers, I also waited for parents to come and get the children…it was evening already and children of their age must be in the house as of that time. It was almost an hour of waiting but no one really bothered to get the children. There parents had already forgotten them. I felt pity for the two boys (it was so clear that they were going to sleep on the area) and felt angry to those parents who abandoned them (and to the government as well who are not doing anything in order to give those children a shelter

Then last Tuesday, we went film viewing in our R.E. class. the films were all about the 'Peace and Order in Mindanao', 'The Paint brush' (a story of old men and women who were abandonned by their own children)... and 'The Canvass of the Society'. The last two film were based on the paintings of one of the most popular painter in the Philippines, Joselito Alvir Velasco

from http://katoliko.org/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/hapag_ng_pag-asa.jpg
Joey Velasco - Sa Kambas ng Lipunan <===Click here to view the film...

Honestly speaking, I was a bit, actually, not paying attention to the Television until the last film, "The Canvass of the Society” was shown. I was really touched by the film, specially sa painting. Aside from it looks real it has its own story to tell. Every children on the painting has his/her own story to tell. All of them came from the urban poor..

I’ve, actually, seen the painting “The Last Supper” (Jesus and the children) when it was aired on T.V. for winning an award. There are actually two version of it. The first one is the children eating with Jesus Christ, and the other one is happy children together with Jesus. I didn’t know then that the children on the painting have their own story to tell. When it was shown on the film I felt sorry for the children. Their situation of living is pitiful. While I am eating three times a day with merriendas, they are only eating once a day and sometimes could not eat at all. I am going to school everyday and nothing sinks into my head while those children keep on wishing they could go to school too. I have a house that shelters me and a family to take care of me, but those children don’t have any.

If only the society, especially, the government would try to pay attention on what is happening around them. If only the money of the gov’t. are spent to help and educate the poor and are not put into the pockets of those corrupt officials. If only the rich people would extend their hands and shower some of their blessings. Then maybe, somehow, poverty may be eradicated in the Philippines. The problem is that once we are in power, we tend to forget the people who had put us on the position. Once we get rich, we tend not to look back to where we came from

"Public office should be a Public Trust” but what is happening is that ‘the Public Office becomes a source of living’ of these TRAPOs. Instead of helping our fellowmen who are suffering from poverty, we tend to disgust them as if they have incurable and transferable diseases. *sigh* when will be the time for the Filipinos to wake up, to help each other, to strive hard for a better Philippines?
